Blue Mountains Family Photographer: Apple picking at Bilpin

Living between the Hawkesbury and The Hills District is such a top location. It means we can jump on the M2 and be in the City within 40 minutes, or head out west and be in the Blue Mountains within 30 minutes.
Today, we chose to head West out to Bilpin. We had absolutely no plans – just wanted to take Ollie out and spend some time together as work has been a bit crazy for both of us lately.
We came across an Apple Orchard who were having the last day of public Apple Picking as the season was coming to an end.
The rows of trees were plucked thin, but if you dug deep, you found some beautiful apples still perfectly ripe and deliciously sweet.
Along the floor under the branches, rotten fruit littered the ground, feeding the local wildlife. It made me sad to think we have so many countries suffering from starvation, yet here in our Lucky country, fruit is literally rotting under our feet.
Nonetheless, apples were going for $2 a kilo, and we picked all afternoon before heading onto the Botanical Gardens. Ollie thought all his Christmases had come at once – crawling along, he happily helped pick apples at the Orchard and flowers at the Gardens.
What a beautiful part of the world we are so blessed to live in.
